Centennial Poet Laureate Contest Starts July 19

There comes a time  When we should rhyme  Or just wax poetic

  from Nancy Iams

It's Eatonville's 100th birthday and the Centennial Celebration needs *a poet laureate. The Centennial Committee is sponsoring a poetry contest and all ages are eligible. Whoever is declared Eatonville's Poet Laureate will be honored at the Cotillion Ball Friday, October 16 where their poem will be read to all assembled, and read at other Centennial events.

Exploring the Past...Enjoying the Now...Envisioning the Future

The rules are simple - just keep in mind that it's Eatonville's celebration. The poem could be about the beauty of the area, rivers, lakes, and hills or the history of its people, its schools, churches or that it is a small town with a big heart. It can be traditional verse, formal or informal, free verse or rhyme, satirical or nonsense. This site, the Dispatch and www.EatonvilleNews.net will publish selected poems over the next three months and the winner will be chosen by at least two judges who are knowledgeable about poetry and the area.
